Wood Gate Styles We Build
Every wood gate is custom-fabricated in our Houston shop. We work in three primary styles.
Board-on-Board Cedar
Overlapping vertical cedar boards give you full privacy with natural texture. The most popular wood gate style in Houston for residential driveways.
Framed Cedar Panel
Cedar boards set inside a steel or iron frame. The frame carries the structural load so the wood stays tight and the gate swings true season after season.
Wood and Iron Combination
Ornamental iron scrollwork paired with cedar infill panels — the warmth of wood with the strength and detail of iron. A popular upgrade for estate-style entries.
Why Choose a Wood Driveway Gate
Wood gives you something iron and steel cannot — warmth and natural character that changes and matures with your property. A well-built cedar gate is dense, dimensionally stable, and naturally resistant to the Houston climate. Our framed designs greatly reduce seasonal movement, and a quality stain-and-sealer finish makes the wood far more stable year over year.
Pair a cedar gate with one of our automatic gate openers and you get full privacy, curb appeal, and the convenience of hands-free entry in a single package.
Wood vs. Iron and Steel — Which Is Right for You?
Choose a wood gate if privacy is the primary goal and you want a softer, residential look. Cedar is lighter than iron and steel, which makes it easier on the opener motor over time. Choose an iron or steel gate if you want ornamental detailing, maximum longevity with minimal maintenance, or a design that ages with no refinishing. We build both — and wood-and-iron combinations — so you can pick exactly what fits your property.
Choose Wood When You Want
Full privacy from street view. Warm, natural curb appeal. A lighter gate that is easy on the opener. Cedar’s natural resistance to rot and insects. Stain colors and finishes to match your home exterior.
Choose Iron or Steel When You Want
Open, ornamental look with decorative scrollwork. Zero refinishing — just paint touch-ups every few years. Maximum structural rigidity. Estate and commercial-grade presence. Browse our wrought iron driveway gates page for details.
Western Red Cedar
Our standard wood material. Cedar is naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and insects — ideal for Houston’s humidity. We source kiln-dried cedar for dimensional stability.
Steel and Iron Framing
Every wood gate is built on a welded steel or iron frame. The frame prevents racking, distributes the load evenly across the hinges, and gives the opener motor a solid, square gate to work with.
Stain and Sealer Finish
We finish each gate with a penetrating stain and UV-resistant sealer. The finish protects the wood from Houston sun and rain and lets you pick a color that complements your home.
Gate and Operator — One All-Inclusive Price
We quote one flat price that covers the wood gate, the gate operator, all hardware, labor, and tax. No separate line items for the motor, no surprise installation fees. The all-inclusive quote you get is the number on your invoice.
Our wood gate operators are matched to the gate’s weight and cycle frequency. A board-on-board cedar double gate is heavier than a single panel, so we size the opener accordingly — you get the right motor for your specific gate from day one.
Our Wood Gate Design and Install Process
We start with a site visit to measure your opening, check the grade and post condition, and talk through your style and privacy goals. From there our shop builds the gate frame, cuts and fits the cedar, and applies the finish. Installation day includes setting or replacing posts if needed, hanging the gate, mounting the operator, wiring the entry system, and a full function test before we leave.
Because we fabricate in-house, we can match unusual opening widths, accommodate sloped driveways, and build custom panel patterns that a stock gate supplier cannot.

What Our Customers Say
Wood Driveway Gate FAQ
How long does a cedar driveway gate last in Houston?
A properly built and finished cedar gate on a welded steel frame typically provides many years of reliable service when maintained. Refinishing the stain every few years is the most important factor in preserving the wood. Our framed design greatly reduces seasonal movement so the gate stays square and the hardware stays tight.
Will a wood gate sag or warp over time?
All wood moves with temperature and moisture. Our steel-framed cedar gates are engineered to resist warping and greatly reduce the seasonal movement that causes lower-quality wood gates to rack. Kiln-dried cedar and a steel frame work together to keep the gate far more stable than an unframed wood build.
Does the price include the gate opener?
Yes. Our all-inclusive quote covers the wood gate, the gate operator, all hardware, labor, and tax. You will not be billed separately for the motor or installation.
Can you build a wood gate for a wide double-wide driveway?
Yes. We fabricate in-house so we can build single or double gates for any opening width. Double gates split in the center and each leaf swings independently, operated by a single control system.
What wood do you use?
We primarily use Western Red Cedar — kiln-dried for dimensional stability and naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and insects. Cedar is well-suited to Houston’s humidity and heat.
Do you offer wood-and-iron combination gates?
Yes. Wood-and-iron combination gates feature a welded ornamental iron frame with cedar infill panels. You get the warmth and privacy of wood with the decorative detail of ironwork. These are popular for estate entries and wider openings.
